DIXIE BLOOR NEIGHBOURHOOD CENTRE JOB POSTING POSITION: 2 INSTRUCTORS,
LINC PROGRAM/ LEVEL 1/2/3 SENIORS CLASSES (1 CHINESE and 1 RUSSIAN)
SCHEDULE: EACH CLASS IS 6 HOURS PER WEEK, 2 DAYS, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
RATE OF PAY: $35.37 hr
JOB SUMMARY:
The Dixie Bloor Neighbourhood Centre requires two Instructors for the Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada program (LINC) to teach Level 1/2/3 Seniors classes of English language learners: one for Chinese Seniors class and one for Russian Seniors class.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Teach a daily class using LINC Curriculum Guidelines
- Design and provide professional, appropriate and motivational lesson plans consistent with accepted teaching methods and level of the class
- Develop and maintain an anti-bias classroom atmosphere where participants feel welcome and interested in learning
- Maintain clear and accurate records of students and attendance
- Participate in professional development sessions and actively utilize information to enhance teaching
Qualifications:
- B. A. or equivalent
- Certificate in TESL from a recognized institution and TESL Ontario certified
- Previous experience teaching ESL or LINC at various levels (min. 2 years)
- Excellent lesson planning skills
- Experience working with seniors
- Computer skills with the knowledge of ESL educational software, MS Word, Internet
- Good knowledge of Canadian Language Benchmarks, ability to benchmark students’ progress
- Ability to work independently with solid time management and organizational skills
- Punctual, reliable, disciplined
